The ideas and pathways for strengthening local and regional seafood systems shared during the Seafood Nexus Workshop and captured in this summary will inform a National Action Plan to strengthen local and regional seafood systems in the U.S. that the University of Maine is co-producing with input from stakeholders. This summary is intended for workshop participants; participants are also welcome to share this document and the ideas from the workshop with those who may be interested.

Workshop sessions for arriving at the final action plans included:

● Creating a shared vision for what the future of local and regional seafood should look like;

● Affirming barriers and challenges in the current local and regional seafood system;

● Mapping the current system to further understand its complexity and how it functions;

● Identifying high-impact areas where there is opportunity for positive change;

● Generating interventions and examples of potential pathways for change to inform future action;

● Workshopping action plans for addressing the key impact areas; and

● Sharing final reflections on the Workshop as a whole and how to move these ideas forward.
